Midterm Reflection

Most of the third quarter in english this year was spent working on the midterm project. The project was that each person in the class had to choose a character from a work of literature that we have discussed in class this year, and make a political campaign as if that character were running for political office. I chose to make a campaign for Angus, a very minor character in Macbeth that has only two or three lines in the entire play. I chose Angus because I had read one of his few lines in an earlier part of the year, but I added a pretty dope scottish accent to the character when I read it. Since that moment in class I have always had some sort of an obsession with this mysterious Angus character, and I was waiting for an opportunity to revisit the character. This midterm assignment allowed me to design a campaign for this awesome character who deserves a lot more than three lines in a shakespearean play. I was somewhat excited to begin this project, and was glad when I found out that we were going to complete this project step by step. I did not have to worry about turning in a massive assignment all at once, which would have stressed the hell out of me. I also thought that it was kind of cool to see all of the small steps that I completed come together in the final step of the project, that step being the symposium. I’ll admit that I was alittle nervous when I learned about the symposium, but once the actual symposium began, I began to enjoy it. I enjoyed answering those questions on the spot, even if the questions asked were really tough questions that would end up making me contradict the beliefs of the character that I was portraying. I also enjoyed answering these questions from the perspective of my character, rather than answering the questions as Trice. If I could change anything about this project, I would have wanted some more tech support from the teacher when I was making my campaign video. I feel like I took too long completing it because I was very unfamiliar with imovie. I also regret that I did not use my scottish accent during the symposium because the accent is the reason why I chose Angus in the first place. In conclusion, I want to say that this project was an enjoyable one, and I would recommend that Mr. Yee keeps using this project for many years to come.
